Set in a very recognizable near-future America marked by political corruption and economic oppression, SUNSHINE ASSASSINS tells the story of FRANK CORSO, a pro-democracy leader in the National Underground who devises a high-risk plan to overthrow the Sunshine Council, the fascist shadow government that runs the United States through mass media propaganda, mind control, and selective assassination. The story begins when Corso is taken into custody by agents from the shadow government and brought to an undisclosed black site to be brainwashed and reprogrammed. While at the site, Corso outwits his captors and escapes, killing one of the shadow government’s assistants in the process. With the help of an influential old friend, Corso and his wife and daughter escape from the U.S. and flee to Central America where they are safe and live anonymous lives. Soon after, the Sunshine Council discovers Corso’s whereabouts and sends two brainwashed assassins to kill him, but they botch the job and kill his wife instead. With revenge in his heart, Corso and his daughter return to America and team up with their Underground compatriots to put his long-shot plan into action. The plan involves kidnapping one of the shadow government’s key figures and “convincing” him to tell the truth on national television about how the Sunshine Council turned America into a fascist state. As fate would have it, not everything goes according to plan. After the government official is kidnapped, Corso suspects that his hated Mafioso cousin, Bobby Capelli, is hot on his trail. A rising star in the fascist government, Capelli has been tasked by the Sunshine Council to terminate Corso and put an end to the leadership of the National Underground once and for all. Will Corso and the Underground be able to fend off Bobby Capelli and his Mafia hit men? Will the kidnapped government official spill his guts on national television? Will the American people rise up in rebellion once they learn the truth about themselves and the society in which they live? All these questions and more are answered in the final, action-packed scenes of the story. Beyond the action line, SUNSHINE ASSASSINS is a cautionary tale, warning Americans what life will be like in the near future if our country continues to allow large corporations to run every aspect of our lives. It is also a multi-layered satire filled with symbols and metaphors about politics, religion, and economics.
